Harold Floyd Western

February 21, 1928 — April 30, 2014

Our beloved Husband and Father, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, Harold Floyd Western, peacefully passed away April 30, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving family. Harold was born in Deseret, Utah on February 21, 1928 to Francis Marion Western and Myrtle Brunson.  He graduated from Hinckley High School and participated in many activities, including sports and drama. He served an LDS mission to Western Canada. Harold married MaryLou Rawlinson in the Salt Lake Temple on September 15, 1950.

He received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University.  His career included working as a CPA for Ernst & Ernst; Tenny, Smith & Western and was President of National Capitol Life Insurance. After returning to teach Accounting at BYU, he was called by President Harold B. Lee to serve as the Associate Commissioner of Church Education over Finance.

His life was devoted to his family consisting of 13 children and his church. He served in various positions and callings, including; Bishop, Scoutmaster, Stake Patriarch and Sealer in the Manti Temple. After retirement, Harold and MaryLou served in the Texas Houston Mission. They retired to his “Lovely Deseret.” His family and friends will always remember him for his humor and quick wit.

Harold is survived by his loving wife: MaryLou Rawlinson Western;  sister: Melba Jacobson; brother: M. Wayne (Delores) Western; and 11 living children: Marcia (Sam) Bartlett, Anne (Stephen) Stoddard, Richard (Teresa), Pauline (David) Marble, Dorene (Zissis) Kitras, Samuel (Laura), MaryLou (Lincoln) Wakamatsu, David (Jan), Susan Quirantes, Joseph (Jenece), and Rebecca (Samuel) Loveless. He leaves behind 52 Grandchildren and 71 Great-Grandchildren (and still counting). Preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Linda; son: Robert;  granddaughter; sister: Evelyn (Max) Robison; brother: Grant (Lucille) Western; and  brother-in-law: Fay Jacobson.

The family would like to thank the staff and loving aides at The Charleston at Cedar Hills and Envision Home Health and Hospice who helped care for our Dad.

Funeral services will be held at the Deseret-Oasis LDS Meetinghouse at 3423 W 4500 S, Deseret, UT, on Saturday, May 3, at 12:30 PM. Friends and family may call at the chruch prior to the funeral, 10 AM-12:10 PM. Interment at the Deseret Cemetery.
