Sherri Lyn Wade Mortensen

February 17, 1959 — May 19, 2014

Sherri Lyn Wade Mortensen, age 55, passed away surrounded by family at home after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Sherri was born February 17, 1959, in Ogden, Utah to Dora Lynne “Cookie” Yeaman and Rollin Larry Wade.  She married Clark Mortensen on May 10, 1974 and was sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden, Utah temple on May 10, 1975.

Sherri is a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her number one priority in life was family. She devoted her entire self to her children. She loved to support her children and grandchildren in everything that they did and attended many dance recitals, soccer games, basketball games, softball games and clogging performances. Sherri and Clark traveled the world in their early married life, but she always loved home best. Sherri was an excellent cook and baker and it was very common for those she baked for to comment on her incredible talent.

Sherri was a kind and generous person, always serving others. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in the Primary, Young Women’s program and was also Relief Society President, until her pancreatic cancer diagnosis prevented her from serving further. She loved those she served and was loved by those she served. She always gave 100% to her calling.

Sherri was strong, patient, brave, and courageous. She fought and won the battle against breast cancer only to face pancreatic cancer a few years later.

Sherri began her married life in Ogden, with a brief move to Bountiful and Sandy, to finally settle in the quiet town of Hinckley, UT for 34 years. She didn’t want to move to Delta because it was “too big of a city”.

During her child-rearing years, she provided childcare in her home. Many of the children she cared for called her Mom. She was easily able to love her own children and care for the children of others.

When her children were older, she worked as a rural mail carrier. For 8 years after retiring from delivering the mail, she received an anonymous Christmas gift in the mail each year. She was touched and felt undeserving of the gift. She was easy to love. She worked in the kitchen at the extended care for a while. Sherri had the gift of unconditional love. She accepted all people for who they were. She was a true follower of Christ in that she loved and served others her entire life.

She found joy in the simple things of life.  She was easy to provide for and was never demanding. She was always accepting of any gift, even if it came “broken in” from a yard sale.

Sherri is survived by her husband: Clark; her children: Wayne, Hinckley; Jason, Enoch; Mindy (Jesse) Smith, Parowan; Rex (Kalani), Fillmore; Andy (Krista), American Fork; Michelle (Jeff) Watson, Hinckley and Zach, Hinckley; 14 grandchildren; and her brother: Jeff (Diane) Wade, Ogden. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother: Brad Wade; and her grandson: Garrett Smith (Mindy and Jesse).
