Vaughn Edwin Owens

August 13, 1951 — September 15, 2014

On Monday, September 15, 2014, Vaughn Edwin Owens, age 63, also known affectionately as “Fast Eddy,” peacefully slipped away from this earth while sleeping at his home in Sutherland. He was the son of James Henry and Maxene Jackson Owens. Born with a BB gun in his hand, in Salt Lake City on August 13, 1951, meant that he was legendary with any type of firearm. He had many other skills and put them to use as a lineman for the UP Railroad before transferring to Citizens Telecom (Frontier) until his health forced him to retire in 1998. He also served 22 years on the East and West Millard Sheriff’s Posse.

He married Jeanene Dutson on July 8, 1977 in Oak City. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in 1987. He was a great man who taught his kids the value of hard work while raising them with his wife on their small farm in Sutherland, Utah. He was the type of friend that would do anything for you, but never passed up the opportunity to utilize you for one of his pranks. He loved motorcycles, which he passed onto both his kids and his granddaughter. He loved his family and considered his mule, Kojack, along with his dog, Baxter, to be apart of that family.

He survived by his wife: Jeanene; his two children: Kirk and Kayla Owens; and his granddaughter: Summer; brother: Leonard Owens; sisters: Sandra Stauffer and Marjorie LeBrecque; along with his many other family and friends. Preceded  in death by sister: Vonda Maxene Owens

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20, at 11:00 AM, at the Sutherland LDS Church. Viewings will be held Friday, 7-9 PM, at the Nickle Mortuary; and Saturday, 9:30-10:40 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in the Sutherland Cemetery.
