Steven Alma Broderick

August 31, 1946 — June 24, 2016

Steven Alma Broderick, age 69, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at his home in Delta, Utah. He was born on August 31, 1946 in Delta, the first child of Alma LaVell and Sephronia Mae Lake Broderick. Throughout his childhood, Steven acted as example and protector his two younger siblings. When he was five, his family moved to California. He graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, CA, where he participated in the ROTC program and became an avid car mechanic.

After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy, bravely serving during the Vietnam War (1968-71). Upon return, he earned an Associates degree from Cerritos Junior College. He worked over 20 years as a delivery driver for the Orange County Register in California.

He was married in 1966, and had 2 sons: Steven Jeffrey and Robert Duane, that were his life. He later divorced. In 1998, he again crossed paths with a childhood friend, Carol Pauline Wood. They were married in Tijuana, Mexico on December 21, 1998. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on September 8, 2001. Steven and Carol settled in Calimesa, CA until he retired, and he came back home to Delta. Steven said Delta was where he always wanted to be.

He was a member of the LDS Church, over the years serving as Sunday School President and Ward Clerk here in Delta, as well as California. He dedicated countless hours to the Scouting Program as a Scout Master and mentor for the youth.

Steve loved guns, hunting, fishing, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, working on cars, and more guns. He had the biggest heart, was a friend to all he met, and was the first to help anytime someone was in need.

Steve is survived by his wife: Carol, Delta; children: Steven (Carly), Long Beach, CA; Robbie (Lisa), Whittier, CA; Geoffrey (Rhonda) Bartlett, Iowa; Genny Bartlett McGinnis, Delta; 15 grandchildren; sister: Sarah Lister, Delta; cousin: Janice (Kelly) Elsworth, Delta. He was preceded in death by brother: Boyd Broderick.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m., at the Delta 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 222 W. 200 N., Delta. Viewings will be held Wednesday, 7:00-8:00 p.m., at the Nickle Mortuary; and Thursday, 9:30-10:40 a.m., prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be in the Delta City Cemetery.

Our family thanks the many caregivers from the Hospital and Hospice, and especially Marian Bunker, Kris Cropper, Gary Stephenson and the Delta 1st Ward for all their kindness.
