Helen Webb Watson

September 14, 1926 — October 10, 2017

Helen Webb Watson, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in Delta, Utah. She was born on September 14, 1926 in Delta, Utah the 9th of the 10 children of Walter Franklin and Rose Ellen Herman Webb. She grew up in Hinckley helping on the family farm. When she was very young she suffered from Scarlet Fever so badly she had to miss an entire year of school. She attended Hinckley High School, where she participated in many activities and served in the Student Body Government. She graduated in 1945, and immediately after received a job working for the Defense Depot-Ogden, doing her part to serve as WWII came to a close. The following year she returned to Delta, where at a dance she greeted a brave soldier with (as was then fairly common) a “Welcome Back Kiss”. It must have made an impression! She married that soldier, Thomas Edward Watson, on October 6, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple.

They bought a small home in Delta and enjoyed working their farm together. They added onto their home as they added 10 children into their family. Helen worked as a waitress at many local restaurants. She was a founding member of the Delta Fine Arts Guild, also serving as its president. She was a member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings and as a Cub Scout Advisor. She made the most of every holiday filling the house with decorations and presents. She enjoyed reading, cooking, watching Jazz basketball, and had an attentive eye and concern with politics. After she and Tom retired in the early 1980's, they enjoyed being able to travel together. They went on many cruises and many trips to Wendover. Tom died on March 22, 2003. As a widow at age 78, she served a proselyting LDS Mission to Tacoma, Washington.

Helen loved and supported her kids and grandkids in all the activities she could. She had plenty of love for everyone. Her example has set a high mark for her family to aspire to.

Helen is survived by her children: Diane (Gary) Greener, Thomas (Carolyn) Watson, Beverly Nisonger, Steve (Shelly) Watson, Mary (Don) Koehler, Sherri (John) Code, Michael Watson, Mark (Debbie) Watson, Terri Watson, John (LynnDell) Watson; 27 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband: Tom; granddaughter: DeeDe Jo Greener; great-granddaughter: Paige McDermaid; and all 9 of her siblings.
