Charles Gardner Moore

November 24, 1951 — December 29, 2017

Charles “Chuck” Gardner Moore, age 66, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 in Billings, Montana from heart surgery complications. He was born on November 24, 1951 in Fillmore, Utah to Robert Payne and Ione Humphries Moore, the youngest of 9 children. At approximately 18 month of age, Charles suffered a case of the measles, which resulted in a complete loss of hearing. At 4 years old, he entered the Ogden School for the Deaf and Blind. He worked hard and was an accomplished athlete. He played basketball and softball, and graduated from the program in 1972. He went to work for IBM debugging circuit boards as a computer technician. He worked at plants in Roundrock, TX; Tucson, AZ; and Minnesota. He was honored many times for his work and innovations. He retired in 2007 and returned to Salt Lake City, working for the Huntsman Corporation.

Chuck never married, but he loved to visit his siblings and their families, joking around and watching football games. He enjoyed bowling, even participating in tournaments in Japan, Australia, the UK, and many other nations. He always brought back many souvenirs to share. He loved to fish, carried a fishing pole in his trunk, and would go whenever and wherever he could.

Chuck was very grateful for his many friends in the Deaf Community. He enjoyed participating in many of the softball games and other activities through the years. He was blessed by the support they gave him.

Chuck’s father left soon after he was born. His siblings, his oldest sister’s husband, Keith, and the Deaf School shouldered the responsibility to raise him to be the strong man he became.

Chuck is survived by his siblings: Myrna (Keith-deceased) Stanworth, Nephi; Monte (Jane) Moore, Redmond, TX; Tony Moore, Salt Lake; many nieces and nephews; and his puppy: Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Gary and Dennis; sisters: Deon Bailey, Lynda Holdaway, Sandra Leavitt.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, at 11:00 am, at the Deseret-Oasis LDS Chapel, 3423 West 4500 South, Delta, UT. A Viewing will be held Saturday morning, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Burial will be at the Oasis Cemetery.
