Taylor James Boardman, age 21, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at his home in Oak City, Utah. He was born on September 20, 1996 in Delta, Utah to Steven Millett Boardman and Brenda Lee Gubler Boardman, and is the third of five children.
At an early age Taylor committed himself to do his very best in every endeavor he undertook. He attended school in Delta, Utah, where he excelled in art, music, computers, science, mathematics, and anything to do with robotics and technology. His passion for the sciences earned him top honors at the Southern Utah Science and Engineering Fair and took him to three International Science Fair competitions in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, where he placed 4th in the engineering category. Taylor was the first student recipient of the Utah STEM Innovations Award in 2015.
Taylor enjoyed participating in the Boy Scouts of America and earned his Eagle award. He also attended the Timberline Junior Leadership Training program; first as a participant, and later serving four years on staff as a youth leader.
He served on the Delta Seminary Council and loved to read and memorize passages from the scriptures. Taylor had an unwavering testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and in God’s plan of happiness.
Taylor graduated from Delta High School as a Sterling Scholar and Senior Class Salutatorian in 2015. He then attended Brigham Young University in Provo for a semester and focused his attention on a dual major in electrical engineering and computer science.
From 2015 to 2017, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Mississippi Jackson Mission. While there he was called upon to use his piano talent and played for several congregations. Taylor served the people in all four states of the mission boundaries, which include Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Following his mission he moved back to Provo to live with his two older brothers and continue his education at BYU.
In his spare time, Taylor enjoyed reading, cooking, camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
He solved every Rubic’s Cube he was able to get his hands on. He loved to watch the Millard County sunsets, and mastered the night-time sky, knowing most locations of planets, galaxies, constellations, and nebulas.
Taylor is survived by his parents: Steven Millett Boardman and Brenda Lee Gubler Boardman, Oak City; older brothers: Tyson Ozro Boardman and Trevor Miles Boardman, Provo; younger sisters: Britney Boardman and Becky Lee Boardman, Oak City; grandparents: Glennis Millett Boardman, Kanab; Rawlene Hales Hansen, St. George; Maurice and Betty Gubler, Tehachapi, California; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was most recently preceded in death by grandfather: Robert Norman Boardman, Kanab; and cousin: Colby Norman Johnson, Kanab.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 14, at 11:00 am, at the Oak City LDS Chapel, 35 East Center Street. Viewings will be held at the Oak City LDS Church on Friday evening, 6:00-8:00 pm; and Saturday, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Oak City Utah Cemetery.
