Jacquelyn Marie Bassett Hardy Turner, age 78, died peacefully at her home in Hinckley, Utah on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from complications associated with Lupus. Jacquie was born in the home of her Petersen grandparents in Hinckley, Utah on June 23, 1940. Her parents Ralph Henry “Bud” and Beulah Marie Petersen Bassett were thrilled to welcome the first of four children into their hearts and home.
Jacquie grew up on the family farm in Sutherland, Utah. As a toddler, she rode on the back of the work horses as her dad railed the brush and leveled the “north forty”. Jacquie attended Delta public schools, graduating from Delta High in 1958. She was popular among her classmates and enjoyed many lifelong friendships from her school days.
Jacquie married Carl Judd Hardy from Hinckley, Utah on April 9, 1958. They lived in Hinckley, Sutherland, Delta, Deseret, Cedar City, St. George, and Murray before moving to Kent, Washington in 1983. Judd passed away on July 1, 1991. Shortly after Judd’s death, Jacquie returned to Utah, where she again lived in Murray, Sutherland, and Hinckley.
On February 11, 1995, Jacquie married Douglas Fred Turner of Sutherland, Utah. Jacquie and Doug made frequent trips to Salt Lake City and Seattle to visit her children and grandchildren. Jacquie grew to love Doug’s five children and enjoyed many happy times with the Turner grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as the extended Turner family.
Jacquie spent many years working as a secretary, first at Viewmont Elementary in Murray, later at Brush Wellman in Delta, at Kentwood High School in Kent, and finally in the accounting offices of Todd Holt in Delta. She was happiest when with family and friends, always greeting everyone with a friendly smile and helpful hand. Jacquie was loved and admired by all who knew her.
Jacquie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in many callings, most recently as a Relief Society president. Jacquie was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and served in the local camp of her great grandmother, Ann E. Bishop. She also volunteered many hours as a docent at the local Topaz Museum (World War II Japanese American Internment).
She is survived by her husband: Doug of Hinckley; Jacquie’s children: Robert (Lisa) Hardy, Russell (Tessa) Hardy, Penny Marie Skagen, and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Hardy all of the Seattle, Washington area, and Kevin Hardy of West Valley City; Doug’s children: Dean, Dale, David (Jean), Deidra (Vale), and Denise (Zack); 35 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; siblings: Paige (Jerry) Hawley of Bountiful, Scott (Claudia) Bassett of Delta; and sister-in-law: Syd Bassett of Sutherland. Jacquie was predeceased by husband: Judd Hardy; parents: Bud and Beulah Bassett; parents-in-law: Carl and Beryl Hardy, Fred and Elaine Turner; son-in-law: Tim Skagen; and brother: Howard.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 18, at 11:00 AM, at the LDS Delta West Stake Center Chapel, 188 North Main, Hinckley. Viewings will be held on Sunday evening, 6-8 PM, at the Nickle Mortuary, 190 S. Center St; and Monday, 9:30-10:40 AM, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Sutherland Cemetery.
