Lou Jean Boltz Hales

November 30, 1948 — September 12, 2019

The light of our lives, Lou Jean Boltz Hales of Hinckley, Utah died unexpectedly on the evening of Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the age of 70 years old. Lou Jean was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on November 30, 1948 to Luke John and Wilma Jean Andersen Boltz. She was the oldest of four children and helped raise her younger siblings. She remained in Idaho Falls until she left home to pursue her education at Ricks College.

After attending Ricks for two years, she graduated on May 9, 1969 with an Associates Degree in Food Science. She went on to complete her Bachelor Degree at Brigham Young University where she graduated two years later with a Bachelor of Food Science and Nutrition degree on May 28, 1971. It was during this time at BYU where she met a handsome next door neighbor, that fate would lead to become her eternal companion.

Lonnie B Hales and Lou Jean were married on December 18, 1971 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They started their family a year later and continued on to have 10 wonderful children. When she wasn’t helping on the farm, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She instilled her love of photo journaling, playing games, reading, sewing, gardening, nature, and collecting rocks to her posterity. Lou Jean spent countless hours doing Genealogy and had researched her father’s ancestry back six generations. She was a dedicated member for the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and served in several offices over the years.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in all auxiliaries and so many callings; including Hinckley 2nd Ward Relief Society President and Stake Primary Secretary. She became a seer of the Lord’s tender mercies and was always eager to share her experiences. At her time of passing, she was serving as a Service Missionary with her husband, Lonnie.

She liked to tell of her first employment as a car hop with her friend. After marriage, she worked at school and hospital cafeterias; later, she rode the bus with special needs children. For the last 18 years, Lou Jean was the Hinckley Town Clerk. Additionally, she spent countless hours trying to improve the cemeteries as the Secretary for the Hinckley-Deseret Cemetery District. She considered all she associated with as a friend.

As a staple of her community, she was constantly serving. She gave generously, expecting nothing in return and was loved by all who knew her. She will be missed by those left behind; but gladly welcomed into the arms of those waiting for her on the other side.

Lou Jean was preceded in death by her parents and stillborn son: Michael Luke. She is survived by husband: Lonnie; her children: Jason (Kim) Hales, Dianne Doyle, Elaine (Philip) Wright, Bonnie Conzo, Sarah (Chad) Stewart, Elizabeth (Kevin) McCarrel, Sandra (Steve) Hawker, Matthew (Lacy) Hales, Linda (Russell) Hales, Joyce (Andy) Harris; 26 grandchildren- 13 boys and 13 girls; siblings: Kevin (Helen) Boltz, Joanne (Darrel) Hammon, John (LaWane) Boltz.
