Lucy Jeannett Benton Harper

March 12, 1975 — May 4, 2021

Lucy Jeannett Benton Harper, age 46, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in Provo, Utah from pneumonia as a result of COVID-19. She was born on March 12, 1975 in Charleston, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Jerry Claude and Peggy Eulee Richardson Benton. She was the youngest of their three children. Lucy grew up and attended school in Summerville, South Carolina. She loved animals. A highlight of her youth was working at a stable, being able to brush down the horses everyday. She was a free spirit and her soul yearned to see new places. As a teenager she set out for new experiences and she moved to Rhode Island. She worked very hard at several jobs as a waitress to support herself and her young daughter. After a few years, she returned back to Summerville. While there, she eventually met the love of her life, Alan Keith Harper. They were married on June 9, 2001 at home in Summerville. They moved around the country living from coast to coast during their early years of marriage with most time spent in South Carolina.

Lucy was deeply caring. In 2011, her sister had an accident that left her paralyzed. Lucy immediately packed up her life and moved to California to take care of her. Soon after, Alan sold the belongings they couldn’t take and joined her. After her sister’s passing in 2015, Lucy and Alan decided they would again sell what they couldn’t take with them and set out to have more life experiences. They hopped in the RV and visited many wonderful parts of the country.

In 2016, after seeing many of the Utah sights, they pulled into the Antelope Valley RV Park. They figured they might stay for a couple of weeks. They also felt like it might be nice do some work where they could while they were here. The Delta Community welcomed them. They made some great friends. Lucy was given the job of camp host at the RV park. She built a life she loved here. She joined the LDS Church. She enjoyed entertaining her friends at parties selling Avon, Mary Kay and Scentsy. She was a bargain hunter and enjoyed purchasing, refinishing and reselling what she found. Lucy and Alan worked hard and in 2019 they realized a dream purchasing a large property and their own home. She made it into a place that reflected her personality. She raised a herd of goats. She enjoyed keeping everything clean and well organized.

Lucy was sassy, fun and friendly. She was caring and touched many lives. She will be deeply missed.

Lucy is survived by her husband: Alan Harper, Hinckley; daughters: Bethany Martin, Rhode Island; Abagail Harper, Hinkley; mother: Peggy Grainger, Summerville, SC; brother: Robert Morgan, Florida. She was preceded in death by her father: Jerry Benton; and sister: Jessie Rossette.
