Robert Boyd Kimber

May 3, 1943 — July 15, 2023

Robert Boyd Kimber was born in Salt Lake City on May 3, 1943 to Albert and Lucielle Strong Kimber, and was named Boyd after his maternal grandfather. When he was a 1 year old, his family moved to Delta, Utah. Boyd graduated from Delta High School in 1961. After graduation, Boyd was happily sent on an LDS Mission to England. After returning, he attended university and had a temple marriage to his sweetheart, Ethel Jean Lovell, on October 6, 1964. Together they bore 9 children: Doug, Jeana, Deana, Ryan, Heather, Shane, Blain, Konnie, and Kyle.

Boyd had many different careers and excelled in all of them. He worked as an insurance agent, at the Newspaper Agency, barber supply salesman, owner of a Donut Shop, commercial driver for Le Bus Tours, school bus driver for Granite School District for 30 years, and owner of a gas station.

Boyd was a faithful member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed attending his ward in Kearns, Utah. He served as a coach and referee for every sport in the church athletic program: baseball, softball and football. He also served as the membership clerk. He especially appreciated his ministering brother, Kyle Phenore. They spent many years ministering together upon many fellow brothers.

Boyd was the President of the Union Gespa from 2007-2011, and was a negotiator for the pay and benefits of Granite School District employee union members.

Boyd loved watching BYU Sports on TV every chance he could, many evenings leaving the TV playing in the background to sleep to. In February of 2007, after 43 years of marriage, Ethel and Boyd divorced. A few years later, Boyd married Shiela Olson, who had also been a bus driver for Granite School District. After a couple of years, Boyd and Shiela also divorced.

In the beginning of 2021, Boyd met Susan Johnson. The were married by September of that year.  Susan and Boyd deeply enjoyed the time spent with each other, and were grateful for the many wonderful memories they shared. Boyd’s health declined after a long bout of pneumonia in 2022. After a month long hospital stay with severe illness, Boyd succumbed to respiratory failure on Saturday July 15, 2023 in West Valley City, Utah.

Boyd loved to tell stories of his past, and was a great historian. Among all his stories, Boyd held those of his 9 children in the highest regard, with special mentions of his friends of 20 years, David and Janna Shell. Boyd considered David as an adopted son.

A Graveside Dedication will be held on Tuesday, July 25, at 2:00 pm, in the Delta City Cemetery. A Viewing will be held at the Nickle Mortuary, 1:00-1:40 pm, before travelling to the cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 29, at 12:00 noon, at the Kearns 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 4300 West 4715 South, Kearns, Utah. Online condolences may be left at www.nicklemortuary.com
