Edward Denison Brown, known lovingly as Denny, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, at the age of 89. He passed in his home in Oasis, Utah, with his devoted wife, Sylvia, by his side. He was born to George Edward Brown and Blanche Grace Denison Brown in Centerville, Utah on February 1, 1936. He is preceded in death by his two sisters: Gae Fausett and Jane Anderson; his son: Moroni Brown; and grandchildren: Steven Thompson and Jersey Brown.
Ed’s life was filled with adventures and hard work. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work by helping his father pick and sell produce. His dedication continued while serving a Western States mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he influenced many lives, including converting a Protestant minister and half of his congregation. A talent that greatly aided his missionary efforts, was his ability to memorize and recite scriptures.
One of Ed’s proud accomplishments was his military service and specifically the fact that he excelled as a marksman. While serving in the 47th Infantry Division at Fort Ord in California, he was the second best marksman out of 17,000 soldiers. He later served in Germany, which gave him the opportunity to tour Switzerland, Italy, France, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, and England.
He sought a career in business management by attending Utah State University, Brigham Young University, and University of Utah and then settled into a career as a master electrician. He worked in the field in a residential, commercial, and industrial setting for 25 years. Later, he pursued beekeeping in which he individually managed as many as 700-800 hives and then later worked collectively with his son, Daniel, in keeping over 2000 hives.
Some other adventures included playing the baritone, singing in high and college choirs, exploring the hillside of Centerville, Utah, and then eventually climbing the Matterhorn in Switzerland.
The greatest chapter of his life began when he met Sylvia Ward at a New Year's Eve dance in Salt Lake City, in 1968. He married his beloved wife in the Logan Temple, and together they honored Ed's commitment to his grandfather, to carry on the family name by raising 11 children, which included six sons and five daughters. He is survived by 10 of his 11 children and 41 of his 43 grandchildren, as well as 5 great-grandchildren.
He also served four years in the Utah State Legislature. As a man of resilience, he survived two major accidents but continued his work till the very end of his life.
Ed’s legacy of hard work and a large loving family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
