Mary Lorraine Welton Thurgood, age 87, passed away October 24, 2013 in Delta, Utah. She was born August 21, 1926 in Hinckley, Utah to Lester Lawrence and Mabel Talbot Welton. She married Doyle Thurgood on December 29, 1956 in Elko Nevada. He died April 2, 2008.
Lorraine grew up in Delta and graduated from Delta High School. Shortly after graduation she moved to Ogden and worked at the Naval Supply Center in Clearfield. She later transferred to the naval base in Oakland, California where she excelled with her typing and computer skills. Lorraine and Doyle moved to Hinckley in 1969 to farm. This is where she was the happiest. She loved horses, raising sheep, her beloved “Puppy” and working along side Doyle on the farm. She also worked at the Rancher Café for many years where she made lasting friendships.
She leaves behind sisters: Beulah (John) Rogers, Wildomar, California; Barbara Dewsnup and Leslie (Mark) Bevan, both Salt Lake City; and special cousins Elmer and Lisa Talbot, Bluffdale. She is preceded in death by sister: Marjore Froom; and four brothers-in-law.
The family thanks the staff of Millard Care and Rehabilitation, Francisco and Christine Colqui, Sherrill and Joyce Tolbert, Clint Atkinson and family, and Kim Ashby for their love and support.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 1, at 12:00 Noon at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel, 190 S. Center St, Delta. Viewing will be held at the mortuary at 11:00-11:50 AM, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Delta City Cemetery. Online condolences at www.nicklemortuary.com
